Mr. William C. Starkey, Jr., age 82, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. He was born August 13, 1935 to William C. Starkey, Sr. and Edna May Starkey Kent in Roanoke, Virginia. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army, was a member of Masonic Lodge Arkansas, and a 32nd Degree Shriner.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shelby Hitt Starkey of Jasper; daughters, Carla Holloway of Cincinnati, Ohio and Connie Williams of Greenwood, Arkansas; stepdaughters, Lana Bruce of Jasper and Shannon Thompson of Gainesville; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Guy Herman Cox, Jr., age 88 of Jasper passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Canton, GA. Guy was born June 19, 1929 in DeKalb County GA, to Guy Herman and Beulah Cox, Sr. He served his Country proudly in the United States Army.

He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Joy Hood, of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Lou Cox, of Dunwoody; sister, Bettie Hudson, of Marietta; grandchildren, Jeremy and Brooke White, of Jacksonville, N.C., Josh White, of Fredericksburg, VA, Justin White and Jenny Brown, of Bealeton, VA., Jarrod White, of Bealeton, VA.; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00pm Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

Mr. James Everett Weeks, Jr., former principal, age 84 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday August 23, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Weeks is survived by his wife: Martha Weeks of Jasper; son & daughter-in-law: Steve & Laura Weeks of Jasper; daughters: Sherry Weeks of Braselton and Elaine Weeks of Gainesville; brother & sister-in-law: Archie & Wenda Weeks of Lexington, KY; sister & brother-in-law: Nancy & Glenn Vaughn of Greenville; and 18 grandchildren.

Visitation will begin on Thursday August 24, 2017 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and on Friday from 8:00am until prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Friday from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Chaplain Roland Nelson officiating. Intombment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Mr. George Walter Godfrey, Jr., age 62, of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

He is survived by his mother, Flara Godfrey of Talking Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Penny Godfrey of Gainesville; sister, Ava Gene Seay of Jasper; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Walter Godfrey, Sr.; brothers, George David Godfrey, Richard Roy Godfrey, and John Anthony Godfrey.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Jasper United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Meadows officiating.

Mr. Sanford Martin Agnew, Jr., age 66, of Jasper passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017.

He is survived by his son, Bailey Agnew of Houston, Texas; sisters, Corneilia, Pat, Gray, and Paige; and his beloved dog, Annie. He was preceded in death by wives, Susie Agnew and Ramona Agnew.

Mr. Clyde David Caylor, Jr., age 68, of  Talking Rock passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at Wellstar Kennestone in Marietta.  He was born in Pickens County November 7, 1947 to Clyde David Caylor, Sr. and Ednerl Perry Caylor.

David is survived  by his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Davis of Talking Rock; nieces, Jessica and Steven Hamrick of Jasper, Mahaley and Grady Russell of Talking Rock; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jesilyn Hamrick, Katilyn Hamrick, Joseph Hamrick, Bailey Russell, and Noah Russell.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Antioch Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Charles Calder Cattanach, Jr. died peacefully with his family at his home in Big Canoe, GA, on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, GA. Charles’ stepson, Father Paul Williams, who is the pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dalton, GA, will preside over the Mass, and a reception will be held at the Church afterwards. Following the reception, the burial with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Columbarium of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.

Charles Cattanach was born on March 23, 1945, in Coral Gables, Florida, to Charles and Helen Skern Cattanach. Charles’ great-grandfather Dr. James Cattanach, who graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, came to the United States to be the head veterinarian at Madison Square Garden, a position held later also by Charles’ grandfather.  Charles was reared in Long Island, New York, until he was twelve years old, and then the family moved to Venice, FL. He graduated from Venice High School and attended the State College of Florida in Bradenton, FL, prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served as a medic in the Air Force from 1966 to 1969. As a Staff Sergeant, Charles was a participant in the “Patch Up” augmentee program to support the 57th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in movement of Southeast Asia casualties during the “Tet” offensive. In April of this year, Charles was diagnosed with an Agent Orange related cancer.

After his years in the Air Force, Charles worked in the medical field as a medical technician, a physician’s assistant and the owner of an ambulance service– South East Medical Transport in Venice, FL. He retired to Blairsville, GA.

On June 8, 1968, Charles married Air Force Captain Madonna Florence Engler of Peoria, IL who was a registered nurse. Madonna Cattanach predeceased her husband and died in Blairsville, GA, in 1994. On July 26, 1997, Charles married a widow Linda Liles Williams at St. Francis Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.

In his retirement, Charles devoted himself full time to his passion–the Pro-Life cause. Under the auspices of the Women’s Enrichment Center in Blairsville, GA, in the early 2000s, he began a circuit riding ultrasound ministry, Life Images, which provided fourteen crisis pregnancy centers in North Georgia with free ultrasounds. He continued his ministry even after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in late April of this year. Throughout the years Charles traveled to the centers, he performed almost 10,000 free ultrasounds saving untold numbers of babies from abortion. The WEC named him “Life Saver Extraordinaire.”

A devout Roman Catholic throughout his life, Charles was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Legion of Mary, and he served as the Parish Council President both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville and at Our Lady of the Mountains in Jasper. He was also a member of the Finance Council and an usher at Our Lady of the Mountains.

Charles is survived by his wife, Linda Liles Williams Cattanach of Big Canoe, GA, his children Donna (Herb) Cattanach Arrowood of Blairsville, GA, Charles Calder Cattanach III of Blairsville, GA; his step children Romi (Brendan) Williams Chadwick  of Cumming, GA, Father Paul D. Williams of Dalton, GA, Andrea (Joe) Williams DeKroon of Peachtree Corners, GA, and Matthew Williams of Crofton, Maryland; his grandchildren Amanda Adams, Amber Adams, Nicholas Cattanach, Charles Calder Cattanach IV, Mary Chadwick, Emma Chadwick, Caroline Chadwick, Nicholas Fouriezos, Ariana Fouriezos, Paul Fouriezos, Ave Fouriezos, Ana Fouriezos, Aly DeKroon, Amy DeKroon, Abby DeKroon, Angelina DeKroon, Joey DeKroon, and Mateo Williams and great-grandsons James Edge Franklin, Hunter Cattanach, and Parker Cattanach.  He is also survived by brothers-in-law Mike Engler of Santa Barbara, CA, Dan Engler of Santa Barbara, CA and Allen Liles (Jan) of Bloomington, MN, and by cousins Elizabeth (Brian) Starr of Boston, MA, and Joyce (George) Wead of Harrisburg, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, GA, to the Women’s Enrichment Center in Blairsville, GA, to the Pinecrest Academy Annual Fund in Cumming, GA, or to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation.
