After Pickens took the first three of the four match ups on the evening, the Dragons looked to make it a complete sweep as they took the floor against the Ramblers of Lafayette. Coming into the game, both teams were undefeated on the season with Pickens at 8-0 & Lafayette at 6-0. Both teams also came in tied atop the region standings at 2-0. This would be a good test for a much improved Dragons team.
In the first quarter, both teams really spent the majority of the frame going back and forth. Noah Sutton got the scoring going for the Dragons with a bucket to put them up 2-0. Lafayette tied it, then Owen Moss made a bucket to make it 4-2. The Ramblers then went on a 4-0 run, which was quickly halted by a Tucker Lowe three pointer. Lafayette went on another little run before Ean Goodwin would make a bucket. At the end of the 1st, the Ramblers led the Dragons, 17-11.
The 2nd quarter, would turn out to be a turning point in the overall scale of the game. Lafayette, went on an 8-0 run to start the frame before Sutton would connect on a layup. Later in the quarter, the Dragons went on a 4-0 run to try and cut the Rambler lead. Going to the half, Lafayette held a 40-21 advantage.
To start the 3rd, the Dragons came out with energy on offense and defense. Pickens, went on a 7-0 run to start the quarter & caused a couple of turnovers in the process. The Rambler lead was cut down to 13 at one point as the Dragons looked to get back into the game. Lafayette would go on a run themselves during the quarter to help maintain their lead. Pickens, did outscore the Ramblers in the 3rd, 13-12, but still trailed going to the 4th, 52-34.
In the 4th, the Dragons, kept playing with energy & toughness just trying to get something going. Pickens went on a 6-0 run at one point. Lafayette would end up coming away with the win, 68-46.

Pickens, will be back home this afternoon taking on the Gordon Central Warriors. The Dragons, are looking for a season sweep of the Warriors as they defeated them 74-33 on the road to begin the season. Tip off is set for 2:30 pm.
After the Nettes took home the big win in the first game of the varsity doubleheader, the Dragons came in looking to complete the region sweep, & remain unbeaten.
In the opening quarter, both teams would trade buckets for the most part. The Dragons would take a three point lead, then Ridgeland would tie it. The Panthers would take a three point lead, then the Dragons would tie it up. The Panthers, scored the final five points of the quarter to take an 18-13 lead into the 2nd.
In the 2nd quarter, the Dragons found themselves down 7 points, 6 points, & 5 points all at different times of the frame. Pickens, fought back all three times to not only tie it up, but take the lead. The Dragons, were led by Tucker Lowe, Noah Sutton, & Owen Moss in the 2nd quarter rally. Pickens, outscored the Panthers 23-15, to take a 36-33 lead into the break.
In the 3rd quarter, the game remained tightly played with both the Dragons & the Panthers going bucket for bucket. Pickens, remained in front by outscoring Ridgeland 20-19, to take a 56-52 lead into the 4th.
Late in the 4th quarter, the Dragons found themselves trailing 67-64. Needing a bucket, Pickens turned to Lowe, who hit nothing but net on a long three pointer to tie the game at 67. The Dragons got a big defensive stop & Ean Goodwin stepped to the line to try & give Pickens the lead. Goodwin hit the 2nd of the two shots, giving the Dragons a 68-67 advantage. With Ridgeland looking to reclaim the lead, Lowe was able to come up with the loose ball, & pass it to Moss for a layup. With one final chance remaining, The Panthers tried to throw up a potential game tying three, but Luke Rogers blocked it, & the Dragons held on to get the win, 70-67.

Pickens, moves to 6-0 on the early season & 2-0 in region play with the win. Next week, will be a busy week for the Dragons as they will play three games. First up for Pickens, a home meeting with Morris Innovative in non-region action on Monday. Tip off set for 5:30 pm.
After the Nettes got their win to open up region play, the Dragons took the floor looking to complete the sweep over Heritage. Pickens came in undefeated at 4-0. With a win, the Dragons would surpass their win total from the 2018-19 season.
In the opening quarter, the Dragons got off to an incredible start led by Noah Sutton. Sutton, scored the first seven points for Pickens. The Dragons, used that run to help propel them to an 18-9 lead over the Generals after one.
In the 2nd quarter, the scoring in the frame was pretty tight. Pickens, outscored Heritage 15-11, after a furious rally towards the end of the half. Going to the break, the Dragons led the Generals, 33-20.
In the 3rd quarter, Heritage was looking to get themselves back into the game. Using a 15-10 quarter run, the Generals did just that. Going to the 4th, the Dragons lead was cut to 43-35.
In the 4th, the Generals did all they could to try to cut into the Dragons lead, shooting three after three. Pickens, held on and get the win, 52-45.

Pickens moves to 5-0 now on the season after that win and, more importantly, 1-0 in region play. The Dragons will be on the road in Rossville this Friday night as they take on the Ridgeland Panthers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
Late afternoon yesterday, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team traveled to Southeast Whitfield to begin their part of the 6-AAAA Region Tournament. Pickens, came in as the #6 seed, while their opponent, the Heritage Generals, came in as the #3 seed. Pickens & Heritage split their meetings during the regular season. The winner, would advance to the 4A State Tournament, & to the semifinals.
In the 1st, the Dragons came out aggressive, & making three pointers early. Tucker Lowe hit 3 three’s, & Andrew Smith nailed a three to lead Pickens to a 18-16 lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the Generals made a run, but the Dragons were able to keep it close. Going into the break, Heritage led Pickens, 32-28.
The 3rd quarter saw the Generals pull away a little bit using a 20-9 quarter run, but remember, we have seen Pickens come back from down double digits in the 2nd half in games late this season. Going to the 4th, Heritage held a 52-37 advantage. In the 4th, both teams scored 11 points a piece, as the Generals came away with the win, 63-48.

After the JV Nettes’ & varsity Nettes’ picked up big wins, the Dragons varsity basketball team looked to complete the afternoon sweep over 7A Forsyth Central.
The Bulldogs, started the game on a 7-0 run. Pickens, fought back and after one, Forsyth Central led the Dragons, 21-16. In the 2nd quarter, the Dragons stayed within striking distance as the Bulldogs kept the lead going into halftime, 41-30.
The 3rd quarter, saw a career achievement reached as Senior Seth Bishop surpassed 1,000 points during his time at PHS. Forsyth Central, used a 23-12 quarter run to extend their lead going to the 4th, 64-42. The 4th quarter was closly contested with the Bulldogs barely outscoring the dragons, 17-15. Forsyth Central took the win however, 81-57.

After the Nettes’ took home an exciting win, the Dragons looked to pull off a big win as their 2018 home portion of their season came to a close. The Christian Heritage Lions, came in ranked in the top 10 in the A-Private classification.
In the first, it was the away team that got off to the quick start. The Dragons, got back into it just before the end of the frame as the Lions held a 14-6 lead going to the 2nd. The 2nd quarter, saw Christian Heritage get the three ball working. The Lions used a 26-14 2nd quarter run to take a 40-20 lead into the half.
The 3rd quarter, saw the Lions extend their lead on Pickens as they took a 65-29 advantage into the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, the younger players for the Dragons got in and looked good. Pickens outscored Christian Heritage in the 4th, 11-8. The Lions would take this one however, 73-40.

Pickens, will be on the road tonight as they will head to Dawsonville to face the Dawson Tigers in a non-region contest. The Tigers, much like the Lady Tigers, are ranked in the top 10 of the AAA classification. Tip off set for 8:30.
After the Nettes picked up a big win earlier, the Dragons looked to complete the varsity sweep over a Southeast Whitfield Raider team that recently took down reigning 6-AAAA region champs Lafayette not too long ago.
In the 1st, both teams found scoring, mainly inside the paint. After one, the Southeast Whitfield Raiders led the Dragons 21-17. In the 2nd, the Raiders started getting the tree ball to go down, but Pickens stayed within striking distance. Going into the half, Southeast Whitfield held a 44-34 lead.
The 3rd quarter scoring again was close as the two teams went back and forth. The Raiders, outscored Pickens 18-15, & held a 62-49 lead going to the 4th. Southeast Whitfield used a 14-6 4th quarter run, to take this one from the Dragons, 76-55.

After the exciting girls game finished, it would be the guys turn as the Dragons hosted the Gilmer Bobcats. Much like the Lady Cats, the Bobcats came into the game 8-1 on the season. Pickens, came in looking to gain some momentum by defeating their rival, & moving to 2-2 in region play.
In the first, both teams traded bucket for bucket, going back and forth. Gilmer, was able to gather a 15-14 lead over the Dragons, going to the 2nd. The 2nd quarter, was much like the 1st quarter as it was very much even at times. While the Bobcats outscored Pickens 19-16 in the frame, the Dragons remained in striking distance going to the half down 34-30.
In the 3rd, the defense for the Bobcats picked up a bit. Gilmer, outscored the Dragons 22-14 in the 3rd, to stretch their lead to 56-44, going to the 4th. Gilmer, used a 16-7 4th quarter run to seal the win, 72-51.
