Nettes run winning streak to 15 games

Jasper, Ga — It was a big game feel inside the Dragons Den on Tuesday, January 25th as the top two teams in 7-AAAA were set for a rematch in Jasper. Coming into the game, the Pickens Dragonettes held a record of 16-2 (7-0) and riding a 14 game win streak. The Heritage Lady Generals, came into the game with a record of 14-4 (7-1) and a 10 game win streak of their own. Both teams came in ranked in the top ten of the 4A poll in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution with the Nettes at #5 and the Lady Generals at #8. The previous match up between these two teams in December saw the Nettes come away with a 31-23 win in a defensive contest. Thr Nettes, used a hot shooting second period and tough defense to help earn a 46-35 win.

 

The first quarter was very much back and forth between these two teams as was expected. The Nettes, jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but the Lady Generals quickly answered and took the lead, 6-5. Two three pointers by Bella Howell and Madison Powell gave Pickens an 11-6 lead over Heritage going to the second.

In the second quarter, the Nettes were lighting it up from beyond the arc. Caroline Mullins got it going with two three pointers in a row. After a bucket by the Lady Raiders made it 17-8, Pickens got three straight three pointers as Amanda Nelson connected for two three’s, and Powell hit her second three pointer of the game to give the Nettes a 26-8 lead over the Lady Generals going to the half.

In the third quarter, Caroline Mullins got things going with a bucket to make it 28-8. After a pair of free throws from the Lady Generals made it 28-10, Carmyn Mullins got a point back after going 1 for 2 from the line. Heritage got their first field goal of the quarter, then Hopkins answered with a three pointer to make in 32-12 Nettes. Later on in the quarter, after a bucket by Heritage, Amanda Nelson hit another three pointer, and Emma Gleason went 1-2 from the line to make it 36-14. The Lady Generals closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to make it 36-20 going to the fourth.

The fourth quarter saw Caroline Mullins score 7 of her 17 points on the night. While Heritage outscored Pickens in the quarter, 15-10, the Nettes came away with the 46-35 win to earn an in season sweep of the Lady Generals. The win now gives the Nettes a 2 game lead in the loss column in the region for the top spot as we inch closer to region tournament time.

The Nettes, will begin a quick two game road trip on Friday, January 28th when they head up to Rossville to take on the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland. These two teams met earlier this month, with the Nettes coming away with a 64-16 win. Tip off for this one is set for 6 pm.

Nettes open ’22 with a big win over Ridgeland

Jasper, Ga — After what seemed like an eternity, the Nettes were finally back in Jasper inside the Dragons Den for a basketball game as they welcomed the Ridgeland Lady Panthers for a 7-AAAA tilt. This was the Nettes first true home game since December 10th as they had been on the road facing non-region opponents and winning the Carpet Capital Christmas Classic that was held at Christian Heritage High School. Coming into the game, the Nettes had won their last 9 games in a row to push their record to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in 7-AAAA heading into the new year. The Lady Panthers, came in struggling a bit but as we know, anything can happen on any given day. The Nettes, used a fantastic combination of defense turing into offense to come away with a 64-16 win.

 

The Nettes, went on a 7-0 run to start the game as Madison Powell knocked down a three, Emmie Moore than made a free throw, then Brylee Deering hit a three. After the Lady Panthers answered with a 4-0 run, Pickens went on a 9-0 run to make it 16-4. The Nettes got two free throws from Carmyn Mullins, buckets from Deering and Bella Hopkins, as well as a three from Amanda Nelson during the run. Again after a bucket from Ridgeland, the Nettes closed the quarter out with a bucket from Emma Gleason and a free throw from Powell to make it 19-6 going to the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Nettes continued their run from the end of the first quarter as Ashaela Buchanan hit a three and Caroline Mullins made a bucket to make it 24-6. After a bucket by the Lady Panthers, Pickens would go on a major run. The Nettes went on a 17-0 run to make it 41-8. Ridgeland, closed out the first half on a 5-0 run to make it 41-13 Nettes at the break.

The third quarter got going with an 8-0 run from the Nettes as Caroline Mullins, Deering, and Moore helped make it 49-13. After a bucket by the Lady Panthers, Pickens went on an 11-0 run to close out the third and make it 60-15 going to the fourth.

Not much scoring happened in the fourth as the Nettes got a free throw from Moore and a three pointer from Buchanan. The Lady Panthers were able to hit a free throw as the Nettes came away with their 10th straight win, 64-16.

As you can tell from the standings above, this will be for sole possession of first place in the region. These two have gone back and forth the last several years and it appears no different this season. Tip off is set for 7 pm.

Nettes get non-region win at home against Adairsville

Jasper, Ga — After a tough game on the road against the Heritage Lady Generals the night before, the Pickens Dragonettes were right back at it on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Adairsville Lady Tigers to the Dragons Den for a non-region ball game. The Nettes, came into the ball game with the Lady Tigers looking to get back on track before they head back on on the road for a big week next week. After a high scoring first quarter, the Nettes defense settled in and Pickens came away with a 78-39 win.

 

The scoring started early in this one as the offense for both teams clicked in this mid afternoon game. Lilly Simmons got the scoring started for the Nettes as she nailed a three pointer. Adairsville came back with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Pickens countered with a 4-0 run themselves as Caroline Mullins and Madison Powell made back to back buckets. An 8-0 run from the Lady Tigers gave them a 12-7 advantage. After the two teams traded buckets, the Nettes went on a 7-0 run, led by Carmyn Mullins and Cassidy Richards, to give Pickens the 16-14 lead. A bucket and a free throw gave Adairsville a 17-16 lead late in the first quarter. Just before the end of the quarter, Reagan Harwood hit a three to give the Nettes a 19-17 lead.

The second quarter, belonged to Pickens. The Nettes caused a flurry of turnovers which led to multiple chances on offense. Pickens got contributions from several different players during the second quarter as they expanded their lead. The Nettes, outscored the Lady Tigers 27-4 in the second quarter to take a 46-21 lead into the break.

The third quarter, much like the first quarter, was a high scoring frame as a combined 34 points were scored between the two teams. Pickens, using a 20-14 quarter run, extended it’s lead over Adairsville to 66-35 going to the fourth.

The Nettes began the shortened fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to make it 77-35. Pickens picked up their 12th win of the season with a 78-39 win over Adairsville.

Nettes continue winning ways on senior night

Jasper, Ga — The PHS Dragonettes hosted the Ridgeland Lady Panthers on Friday, December 11th in another 7-AAAA meeting. With the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the season, this night was deemed Senior Night that way the players from the Nettes and Dragons, as well as the cheer and dance teams could be recognized. The Nettes, came into the game after a big region win over the Heritage Lady Generals on Tuesday, and looked to improve their region record to 3-0 and the their overall record to 4-2. Ridgeland, came in 1-3 overall, and 0-2 in region play.

 

The first quarter started off slow for both teams. Plenty of shots were going up, just none would fall for either side. Reagan Harwood got the scoring started for the Nettes as she was able to connect on a layup attempt. Amanda Nelson then followed with a couple of free throws. Towards the end of the quarter Pickens saw shots start falling more consistently. Harwood got another bucket, Emma Gleason and Cassidy Richards hit back to back three pointers, and Nelson made a bucket to give the Nettes a 15-0 lead over the Lady Panthers after the first quarter.

To begin the second quarter, the Nettes went on a 16-0 run. The Lady Panthers would end their string of bad luck with a three pointer, and a jump shot. The offense was on fire for Pickens in the second quarter scoring 35 points. Senior Kealy Hillhouse lead the way with several three pointers during the quarter. Heading into halftime, the Nettes held a 50-5 lead over Ridgeland.

In the third quarter, the Nettes got multiple players involved in the scoring as they continued to lead the Lady Panthers going to the fourth, 65-7.

Nettes sweep Ridgeland on alumni night

The Pickens Dragonettes (13-7, 6-2) were home last night hosting the Ridgeland Lady Panthers (2-14, 1-7) in 6-AAAA action. The Nettes, were coming off of a big road win over the Heritage Lady Generals on Tuesday, and looked to keep that momentum built to this game.

 

In the first quarter, the Nettes raced out to a big lead. After Ridgeland got the first bucket of the game, Senior Mykenzie Weaver went on a personal 8-0 run to give Pickens an 8-2 early advantage. The rest of the quarter saw the Nettes outscore the Lady Panthers 21-8. Pickens, got three pointers from Weaver, Sarah Morris, and Allie Presley in the frame. Going to the second quarter, the Nettes led, 29-10.

In the second quarter, the Nettes would go on a 6-0 run led by Presley and Cassidy Richards. Ridgeland went on a mini 4-0 run to cut the Pickens lead to 35-14. The Nettes, closed the half on an 18-0 run using great defense to turn into offense, as they led 53-14 at the break.

Pickens, started off the third quarter with a 7-0 run led by Weaver and Morris. The third quarter would be a close quarter scoring wise as the Nettes just did outscore the Lady Panthers, 21-18. Going to the fourth, Pickens continued to lead, 74-32.

In the fourth quarter, the Nettes mixed and matched some of the JV players with a couple of starters and they made the most of their opportunities. In a shortened quarter, Pickens outscored Ridgeland 15-4, to take home the win, 89-36.

Nettes earn sweep over Heritage after road win

The Pickens Dragonettes (12-7, 5-2) were on the road last night as they took on the Heritage Lady Generals (4-13, 1-6) in 6-AAAA region play. The Nettes, had already defeated the Lady Generals once this season, and came into this one looking for the regular season sweep to keep third place all to themselves.

 

The first quarter started out with an early free throw by the Lady Generals. Allie Presley, gave the Nettes their first lead of the game with a bucket to make it 2-1. Heritage then went on a 5-0 run, to reclaim the early lead, 6-2. Pickens, went on a run themselves led by Cassidy Richards and Carmyn Mullins. Richards, hit two free throws, then Mullins went on a personal 5-0 run including two buckets and a free throw to make it 9-7 Nettes. Pickens, outscored Heritage 12-4 for the remainder of the quarter to take a 21-11 lead into the second.

Early in the second quarter, the Nettes went on a 7-0 run fueled by three pointers by Presley and Richards. After a bucket by Heritage, Marlee McClure stepped into a three pointer and connected and Mullins nailed a bucket to make it 33-14. The Lady Generals hit a pair of free throws to close out the half with Pickens ahead, 33-16.

Right out of the gates in the third quarter, Chloe Walker hit a three pointer to give the Nettes a 36-16 lead. Heritage, came right back with a three of their own and we were underway in the second half. Pickens went on a little 5-0 run after the Lady Generals three pointer with Mykenzie Weaver making a bucket and Richards hitting a three. Heritage, outscored the Nettes in the third. 13-9, but Pickens continued to lead, 45-29, going to the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, Heritage cut the Nettes lead down to 11 on two occasions, but a 9-0 sparked by five straight points from Sarah Morris helped put the game out of reach. The Nettes took this one, 67-47.

‘Nettes move to 2-0 in region after road win

The Pickens Dragonettes took to the road on Friday to take on the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland in their 2nd region game of the season. After a big 67-58 win at home on Tuesday against Heritage, the Nettes looked to keep things rolling against the Lady Panthers.

 

In the first quarter, it was the home standing Lady Panthers getting off to a quick 6-0 start. Cassidy Richards for the Nettes, got them on the board with a three pointer & a two pointer to cut it to 6-5, then Mykenzie Weaver would give Pickens it’s first lead of the game at 7-6 with a bucket. Ridgeland, had a 13-10 lead late in the opening frame, but Weaver closed the quarter with 10 of the last 11 points ( Marlee McClure with a free throw) & gave the Nettes a 21-13 lead going to the 2nd.

In the 2nd quarter, the Pickens fast paced attack started to take over as they would hold a 36-17 lead over Ridgeland at one point in the frame. The Lady Panthers, would cut into the lead a little bit towards the end of the half as the Nettes were out in front at the break, 40-25.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the beginning stages of the 3rd quarter, Weaver went on a person 9-3 run against Ridgeland. Pickens, would go on to score 18 more points in the frame as they outscored the Lady Panthers 27-16 in the 3rd to stretch their lead over Ridgeland to 67-41, going to the 4th.

The Nettes, were able to close this thing out behind great play by Sarah Morris, who had 8 4th quarter points, & great hustle & defensive plays by Amanda Nelson & Chloe Walker. Pickens, outscored Ridgeland 22-7 in the 4th, & 49-23 overall in the 2nd half to take this one, 89-48.

Nettes’ come away with region win in home opener

After 4 games either on the road or on a neutral floor, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team was finally at home as they welcomed the Heritage Lady Generals in to begin region play. Pickens, came into the game 2-2, & looked to get region play started on the right foot with a big win over Heritage.

 

In the opening quarter, after starting off quickly, the Nettes, using their run & gun style of play, grabbed a 23-15 lead over the Lady Generals.

In the 2nd quarter, the offense for both teams picked up as 39 points were scored between the two squads. The Nettes, barely outscored Heritage in the frame 20-19, as Pickens took a 43-34 lead over the Lady Generals into the half.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the 3rd quarter, both teams would find it difficult to sustain any sort of flow on offense. The Nettes, outscored Heritage, 9-4, to take a 52-38 lead into the 4th & final quarter.

In the 4th, the Lady Generals would make an attempt at a comeback outscoring Pickens 20-15 in the frame, but the Nettes were able to hold off Heritage & get the win, 67-58.

Nettes’ Suffer Tough Defeat In Region Opener

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, traveled up to Ringgold to take on the Lady Generals of Heritage in the opening game of 6-AAAA region play. Pickens, was coming off of a 2nd place finish last week in the annual Thanksgiving Tournament & had confidence coming into this game with Heritage after sweep the regular season series, & besting them in the region tournament semifinals last season.

 

In the first quarter, the Nettes’ jumped out to a quick start in a big time early road game. After one quarter of play, Pickens found themselves ahead of the Lady Generals, 19-12. For the bulk of the 2nd quarter, both teams traded bucket for bucket. The Nettes’, outscored Heritage 10-8, giving them a 29-20 lead, going into the break.

 

In the 3rd, the tide began to turn ever so slightly. By outscoring Pickens in the 3rd, 13-8, the Lady Generals cut into the Nettes’ lead as we headed to the 4th, 37-33. In the 4th, Heritage would go on a big run before the Nettes’ got their first bucket of the frame. The Lady Generals, used a 24-12 quarter advantage to take this one, 57-49.

Nettes’ Back To .500, Pick Up First Region Win

Last night, after either playing on “neutral” court or on the road, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team was finally back home as they welcomed the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland for a region tilt. Pickens, looked to get back on track after a tough loss on the road to Heritage on Tuesday, & even up their overall, & region record.

 

The Nettes’, got off to a fast start on the home floor as they got things rolling early. Going to the 2nd quarter, Pickens led Ridgeland 20-7. To their credit, the Lady Panthers found their stride as their offense picked up in the 2nd quarter. After one half of play, the Nettes’ found themselves ahead, 32-20.

 

In the 3rd quarter, Ridgeland continued to climb back into the game as they outscored Pickens 17-14 in the frame, to cut the Nettes’ lead to 46-37, going to the fourth. The 4th quarter, saw an explosion of offense from the Nettes’. Pickens, poured in 28 points in the final quarter to pull away from Ridgeland and seal the win, 74-52.

Nettes’, Complete Season Sweep Of Ridgeland In A Big Way

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the long trip up to Rossville to take on the Ridgeland Lady Panthers in 6-AAAA action. Pickens, came into the game coming off of a big upset over the Heritage Lady Generals, handing them their first region loss in the process, & were looking to keep momentum going with another region win.

 

The 1st quarter, started out slow for the road team until the 2nd unit came into the game. That 2nd unit, propelled the Nettes’ into the lead as we headed to the 2nd, Pickens up, 18-11. The Nettes’, extended their lead in the 2nd quarter with defense. The defense of the Nettes’ helped them to a 25-6 quarter run, to take a 43-17 lead going into the half.

 

In the 3rd, Pickens continued to lead as they used a 15-8 quarter run to extend their lead to 58-25 going to the fourth. In the 4th, the Nettes’, closed out the game with a 23-6 run to grab the win, 81-33.

Nettes’ Hand Heritage Their First Region Loss With Overtime Win

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, hosted the Heritage Lady Generals in a crucial 6-AAAA region match up. Heritage, came into the game atop the region standings at 6-0, while the Nettes’, came in at 3-3. Good for 4th. The Lady Generals, took the first game of the series earlier in the season, with Pickens looking for the split.

 

It was clear early on that these two teams were evenly matched. After the first quarter, Pickens held a slim 12-11 lead over the Lady Generals. In the 2nd, both teams traded buckets, with Heritage outscoring the Nettes’ 12-9, to take a 23-21 lead into the break.

 

This game remained tight as we entered the 2nd half. The 3rd quarter, saw Pickens outscore the Lady Generals 12-9, to tie things up going to the 4th, at 32 a piece. In the 4th, it came down to the final seconds as senior Torie Williams hit game tying free throws, & Heritage missed a potential game winning three, to send us into overtime, tied at 42. In the overtime period, the Nettes’ outscored the Lady Generals, 8-4, to get a big win, 50-46.

‘Nettes Get 4 In Double Figures In Win At Ridgeland, Host Chestatee For Senior Day

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the long trip to Rossville, Ga to take on the Ridgeland Lady Panthers. The ‘Nettes, came into the game still buzzing after sweeping the Heritage Lady Generals on Tuesday, and looked to continue their momentum against the Lady Panthers.

 

In the first, it would be a slow start initially, but picked up as the quarter went on. Pickens, gathered a 16-9 lead over Ridgeland going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, the ‘Nettes offense found more consistency, and it reflected on the scoreboard. Using a 21-15 quarter run, Pickens took a 37-24 lead over the Lady Panthers heading into the break.

 

The second half, would belong to the road team in green. The ‘Nettes, would turn it up on both sides of the ball in the 3rd, to increase their lead over Ridgeland. Using a 22-6 quarter advantage, Pickens, held a 59-30 lead over the Lady Panthers going to the 4th. In the 4th, as was the case for most of the 2nd half, the younger girls got in and played very well for Pickens. The ‘Nettes, closed things out using an 18-12 run, to get the win, 77-42, over Ridgeland.

‘Nettes Sweep Lady Generals, Take Over 2nd Place In 6-AAAA

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, hosted the Heritage Lady Generals inside the Dragons Den. This game, was critical as far as region standings were concerned as the winner of this one, would take over sole possession of 2nd place, with the region tournament fast approaching. The last time these two met, the ‘Nettes came away with a big road victory.

 

It was a slow start for both teams in the first quarter as shots were just refusing to fall. Mid-way through the frame, the scoring picked up, & it would be Pickens taking a 15-8 lead over Heritage going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, again, points were hard to come by. The Lady Generals, used a 10-6 quarter run, to trim the ‘Nettes lead down to 21-18, going to the break.

 

The 3rd, saw back and forth action as they score remained close. Pickens, used a slim 14-13 quarter advantage over the Lady Generals to take a 35-31 lead into the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, the ‘Nettes, were able to pull away using a 22-9 quarter advantage to get a big win, 57-40.

‘Nettes Get Big Road Region Win Over Lady Generals, Now 7-0

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the trip up to Ringgold to take on the Lady Generals of Heritage in a big 6-AAAA region game. Coming into the ball game, Pickens, hadn’t played since the Gilmer game due to the snow, & came in 6-0, and in a three-way tie for 1st in the region. Heritage, came in 5-2, & also a part of that three-way tie at the top of the region standings.

 

In the 1st quarter, both teams got things going offensively as buckets would be traded back and forth. Heading in to the 2nd, the ‘Nettes held a 17-16 lead over Heritage. In the 2nd quarter, Pickens, as they have a few times early in the season, held a good Lady Generals team to single digits in the frame as they outscored Heritage 14-9 to take a 31-25 lead into the break.

 

In the 3rd, that high powered Lady General offense got things going. Heritage, would outscore the ‘Nettes 20-12 in the 3rd to take a 45-43 lead going to the 4th & the final quarter. In the 4th quarter, Pickens, made a 22-13 run using some timely buckets and clutch free throws to come away with the huge road win, 65-58.

This past Friday, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team welcomed the Ridgeland Lady Panthers to the Dragons Den in a 6-AAAA match up. The ‘Nettes, came into the ball game at 7-0 after a big road when this past Tuesday against Heritage.

 

In the first quarter, it was a feeling out process for both teams as both got things going. The ‘Nettes, were able to grab the lead heading into the 2nd quarter, 16-10. In the 2nd, Pickens continued to turn their defense into offense. Ridgeland, despite several turnovers during the frame, stayed within striking distance of the ‘Nettes. The ‘Nettes, used a 12-8 quarter run, to take a 30-18 lead into the break.

 

In the 2nd half, the defense for Pickens really picked up. In the 3rd, the ‘Nettes added to their lead using an 11-6 quarter run. Pickens lead the Lady Panthers 41-24 going to the 4th. A 10-5 quarter run by Pickens in the 4th sealed their 8th win in a row as they took this one, 51-29.

The ‘Nettes, will face their toughest test to date so far during the season when they host the Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins tomorrow. The Lady Bruins, are 8-1, & 4-0 in 6-AAAA. Tied atop the standings with Pickens. The Lady Bruins, are averaging 63.4 ppg while giving up 33.6 ppg in 9 games so far this season. The ‘Nettes, are averaging 54.6 ppg, while giving up 36.3 ppg. Tip off for this one is scheduled for 6 pm.
