The Pickens High School basketball teams traveled to Gilmer County on Wednesday to play in a makeup game that had been canceled the week before. In attendance were the varsity teams along with the JV Boys team. Every game was close for the duration of the event, but the PHS teams all fell to the Bobcats on the night. (more…)

“Nettes” Nipped: Bulldogs Bark Back Dragons’ Comeback

The Pickens High School Dragonettes and Dragons varsity basketball teams traveled to Cedartown High School to battle the Bulldogs. It was Cedartown’s senior night and the home teams pulled out two close wins in front of a raucous hometown crowd, 71-67 over the “Nettes” and 44-43 over the Dragons. The Pickens junior varsity Dragons was the only team to score a win, blowing out the Bulldogs 55-32. (more…)

Dragons Basketball Swept by Gilmer

The Pickens High School basketball teams played host to the region rival Gilmer Bobcats Tuesday night. The matchup was the second meeting of the year for the two teams, with the first coming in the annual Tip-Off tournament. After the JV Dragonettes fell to the Lady Cats, the varsity teams looked to right the ship; however, the Dragonettes ran out of time, falling 46-44, while the Dragons fell 57-42. (more…)

“Nettes” Nab Second Place for Pickens at Tip-Off Tournament

The Pickens High School Dragonettes basketball team traveled to Fannin County High School for the annual Tip-Off Tournament. The “Nettes” faced the Gilmer Lady Bobcats in the first matchup of the “round robin” style tournament on Saturday. It was a game that was incredibly close for the entirety of the contest, but the “Nettes” was able to hold on late for a win 49-47. (more…)

The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs. The game was also the annual “Senior Night” celebration, when the lone “Nettes’” senior, Olivia LeMieux, was honored. The “Nettes” got nixed by the Lady Dogs in a 1-0 pitchers’ duel. (more…)

Pickens Picks Up Win as Dragonettes Look to “Strike Out” Cancer

The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted region rival, the Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats. The game took a back seat to life, as the Dragonettes honored all those affected by Cancer to take part in a brief “Strike Cancer” pre-game ceremony. Both of Pickens High School’s basketball teams played great games on day one of the Pickens Holiday Classic, as the Dragonettes frustrated the Fellowship Lady Paladins in four quarters of play and the Dragons dominated the Strong Rock Patriots to give PHS a 2-0 start to the tournament.

The Pickens Dragons and Dragonettes traveled to Calhoun on Tuesday to take on the Sonoraville Lady Phoenix and Phoenix and had mixed success, as the Dragonettes fought hard but ultimately came out on the losing end and the Dragons took advantage of a great third quarter to pick up their first victory since the second day of the ETC Tip-Off Tournament.
