Pickens County Recreation Center director, Brian Jones, sat down with FYN sports to discuss the center, its availability, and his duties and responsibilities. Jones spoke about how the facility houses numerous soccer fields, basketball courts, and baseball fields. The basketball courts are often used by children after school during the hours that parents are still at work, as well as a home for the rec center’s league. (more…)
New Pickens High School Dragonettes volleyball coach, Ben Banard recently spoke with FYN about taking over the team and his expectations for the 2014 season. Banard spoke of being new to the sport, as an assistant coach last season, and his growth with the team going into this season. The Pickens High School Dragons baseball is on a hot streak, winning three games in a row. After Pickens procured its first home win of the season, rocking Rockdale 11-3, the Dragons burned the Mountaineers of North Murray with two straight defeats. The Pickens High School Dragonettes and Dragons tennis teams took on the region rival Gilmer Lady Bobcats and Bobcats. While the “Nettes” nixed the ladies from Gilmer at the net, 3-2, the Dragons got burned by the same score. (more…)
The Pickens High School Dragonettes and Dragons varsity basketball teams traveled to Cedartown High School to battle the Bulldogs. It was Cedartown’s senior night and the home teams pulled out two close wins in front of a raucous hometown crowd, 71-67 over the “Nettes” and 44-43 over the Dragons. The Pickens junior varsity Dragons was the only team to score a win, blowing out the Bulldogs 55-32. (more…)

The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted region rival, the Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats. The game took a back seat to life, as the Dragonettes honored all those affected by Cancer to take part in a brief “Strike Cancer” pre-game ceremony. Afterward the Dragonettes defeated the Lady Bobcats 5-4 with Olivia LeMieux providing the game winner on a two run standing double (more…)
