During last night’s work session a combination of disbelief and surprise seemed to be the prevailing feeling over the resignation of two city council members from Nelson. The two council members, Jonathan Bishop and Duane Cronic, hand-delivered their resignation letters to City Manager Brandy Edwards Friday, March 28, with no further discussion. (more…)

With the final numbers tallied on the Pickens County Courthouse construction, County Commissioner Rob Jones was confident the bond will be paid soon and with the final budget coming in under what was set aside, a windfall seems to be set for all who participated in the first S.P.L.O.S.T. collection. Nelson City Council opted to hire Jim Koury as their new police chief in a special called meeting tonight. He will be sworn in February 3 at their next city council meeting.
A fire in the Winchester Oaks subdivision of Nelson woke neighbors with a start this morning. FYN is attempting to determine who made the call to the Pickens 9-1-1 but Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather stated they were notified of the structure fire at 5:47 a.m. (more…)
As expected, Nelson swore in its new city council members and mayor last night. Board Incumbent Jackie Jarrett, newly-elected member Thad Thacker and new Mayor Larry Ray all took their oaths of office last night in the council’s first meeting of the year. (more…)
Carol Opdenhoff knows there will be challenges in her immediate future but is hopeful she can meet them head-on and keep Talking Rock moving forward. As a resident in the town 16 years, the new mayor is looking to lifelong residents with historical knowledge as well as fresh ideas from newer citizens for input. (more…)
Slated improvements to the basketball court and the walking trail in Nelson will be put on the backburner for the time being as the park is still under construction and the weather will not permit proper conditions to make repairs to the court area. (more…)
Nelson City Council meetings are known for their contentious atmosphere. However the meeting conducted Monday night was marked by arguing between a public official and a citizen, unlike other recent nearby city meetings which were earmarked by S.P.L.O.S.T. disagreements. (more…)
